Some Crappy Sketchbook Drawings!

Hi no one. I've been drawing again!

My friend Kyle gave me a small sketchbook, and for some reason I've actually been using it on some down time instead of watching Gossip Girl on Netflix. Sometimes I do both. Here are some terrible iPhone photos of some of the pages.

Most of them deal with me trying to flesh out some characters for the comic I've been telling myself I'd do for a couple years. Have you noticed a trend in my work ethic? Shut up.

This is the main character. He's the one I can't figure out at all. Maybe if I gave up on the original idea altogether, I'd make some progress, but I don't like change.

Here's the girl. She's fine. I don't know. There's something else I could do with her.

Here's the pirate. He's the one I seem to have down the best, although there was a terrible drawing of him that I had to omit because of my cursed pride.

The girl's family. Her parents who hardly exist, and her hotter sister.

Examples of watching Gossip Girl and drawing. Although you'd think it was Downton based on the Lady Edith girl I did up there in the top right. I almost exclusively watch TV shows about rich people.

These aren't works of art, but, then again, nothing on this blog is. I hope you've enjoyed this foray into the depths of my sketchbook. Maybe this will lead to better, more fleshed out drawings. Maybe.

Halloweentime

Hello, neglected blog. I was just scrolling through you and realized you needed to be updated. It's Halloween time, so I promise to update you with another drawing of half-naked teens flaunting authority while some murderer watches from a distance.

It's on the blog now, so I have to do it.

Lotta Crabtree Comics #1

A long time ago, my friend Emily was researching Gold Rush era clothing and came across this photo:

After some research, we learned that this brilliant woman was named Lotta Crabtree, and she was a performer. Fun fact: she put cayenne pepper in her hair to make it sparkle on stage. Also, she has her own day (November 6).

Anyway, that face she's making is priceless, and I drew a comic about what I imagine her every day life must have been like. More to come, I bet.

I don't care if only one person finds this funny.

Merwalrus Doodles

The other day we were learning Storyboard Pro, and...this quick sketch appeared.

It's the seductive mer-walrus. Also, an enamored pirate.

 

Not content with the horrible monstrosity I unleashed on the world, I also doodled this even more quickly.

This entry was largely an exercise in getting this thing up and running again. I'm in the market for a new drawing apparatus, so hopefully once that's acquired, this blog will be a lot healthier. I know what you're thinking - couldn't you just draw on paper and scan it?

Vegans

Here are some people who are based on the vegans who work the Sweet Leaf booth at Coachella. They don't have a background because I couldn't figure out what to do that didn't make everything seem complicated. Maybe I'll come back to it, but maybe I should move on to other stuff and try to get this blog rolling again.

UPDATE: OK, I added some tents. It's still not great, but it's simple, and doesn't take away from the vegans.

Birds

This is the companion piece to my happy pirate. Although, by "companion piece", I really mean it's just another character from the comic I've been mulling over in my head. Also, purple and yellow are complementary colors! I don't know if you know this, but I'm colorblind, and purple is a trouble color for me, so my coworker/friend Mira helped me figure out what colors would look good. She's got a good eye. Also, I'd just like to apologize in advance for any other color errors you ever notice. I'm trying.

Anyway, this is probably the last piece of art I'll post until the new year...which is par for the course for this blog, anyway.
